It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Donald (Donnie) Meister, aged 78, on June 8, 2018 at the CBRH Palliative Care Unit.
He was predeceased by his parents, Oliver Meister and Muriel (Parker, Meister) Hiltz; his step-father, Vance Hiltz, and brothers, Roger, Vaughn and Orley.
Born in New Ross, he was a machinist by trade. Donald also served in the Canadian Army (RCR's 1st Battlion) and the Canadian Navy as able seaman Weaponsman Underwater. He was a former salesman for Canadian Gypsum, a bartender and member of the East Bay Legion and previously owned his own fishing boat the "Ann Elizabeth". Don enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and was also a scuba diver. He could always be found out in his garage working on one of his latest projects.
Surviving is his wife, Diana (Whitman); son, Donald Jr. (Violet), Sydney; daughters, Melissa (Rob) Munroe, NL, Denise (Shayne) Nagy, Shannon (Gordon) Murtland, both Alberta; grandchildren, Isaac and Chloe Meister, Jacob and Breton Munroe, Bryan Alexander, Jayd and Bailey Murtland; brothers, Eugene (Shirley), Greenwood, Vernon (Carole), New Minas, Phil (Holly), David, Ontario; sisters, Marion (Glen) Walker, New Ross, Linda (Warren) Pearen, Ontario, Shirley MacAskill, New Ross, Jannette Moore, Aylsford, Velma,(Bill) Murray, Calgary.
Donald has donated his body to Dalhousie Medical School for research.
There will be a celebration of Life at the East Bay Legion on Tuesday, June 12 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
