Margaret Emmaline (McKenna) Bassett

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Margaret Emmaline (McKenna) Bassett, age of 95 years, surrounded by her family at the Prince County Hospital on June 15, 2018. The second daughter of the late Wendall and Mary Ann (nee Hagan) McKenna was born on June 1, 1923 in Newton, P.E.I. Margaret, a woman of strong faith, was a lifelong teacher who loved to bake, quilt and create beautiful gifts for her family and friends. She was a founding member of the St. Peter’s Parish CWL. She loved to spend time with friends and enjoy a game of cards and/or an evening of bingo. Margaret’s youthful spirit, amazing memory, and heartwarming hugs will be especially missed by her children: Vivian (David Johnson), Marlene (Garry Burke), Wendall (Paulette), Rita (Ian MacLure), Ann (Jack DesRoches), David (Jane), Deanna (John Greenan); 15 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; her sister, Elizabeth Peters and brother-in-law, Charlie Murphy; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends both young and old. Predeceased by her devoted husband, Mr. J. Ellsworth Bassett, to whom she was married for 73 love filled years. Predeceased by siblings Sister Vivian McKenna, Mary and Linus Mulligan, Teresa Murphy, Frank McKenna and Florence and Stan Walchuk; sisters and brothers-in-law Margaret and Ollie McAvinn, Kathleen and Ambrose Monaghan, Aeneas and Lorraine Bassett and Phyllis McKenna; granddaughter Carla Craig, and special niece, Charlene Mulligan. Resting at Kinkora Place, Kinkora for visitation on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. CWL will have prayers Wednesday evening prior to visitation. Funeral Mass to be celebrated at St. Peter’s Church, Seven Mile Bay on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Prince County Hospital Hospice Care program or PEI Food Bank.
