Passed peacefully away on June 22nd surrounded by his family and friends at the Miller Centre in St. John’s after a courageous battle with cancer. Leaving to mourn his devoted wife Dorothy (Dot) of 44 years, loving sons Chad (Angela), Jamie (Pamela), Todd (Victoria), and grandchildren Jovie and Jordan. He left behind five brothers and four sisters as well as many in-laws, nieces, nephews and a large circle of friends. He retired from IOC, Labrador City after 40+ years. He was a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. Rupert had a great sense of humour, he loved scratch tickets, music, singing and his famous “step dancing”. In his leisure time he tried to catch every open line show on the radio and game shows on TV. He was an all-around great person and loved by all that knew him. The family are very grateful of the professional care and kindness shown by the doctors, nurses and staff of the P.C. unit. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral 329 Freshwater Road, St. John’s. Visitation to take place as follows: Sunday, June 24 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. – 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter’s Parish, 110 Ashford Dr. Mount Pearl at 10:00 a.m.| Monday, June 25th. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Topsail/Blackmarsh Road, St. John’s. Flowers are accepted or donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in memory of Rupert Decker. A reception will follow the Christian burial to celebrate the life and memories of Rupert at St. Peter’s Parish (downstairs) hosted by the Knights of Columbus (Mount Pearl Council).
