It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barbara Anne Pace of Sydney on June 24, 2018, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, with her loving family by her side. Born in Sydney, NS, Barbara was the daughter of the late Harry and Abbie McCann
Barbara is survived by her adoring husband of 53 years, Al Pace; four children, Dr. David (Renee) Pace, St. Johns, NL, Cathy Pace, Vancouver, BC, Michael (Karen) Pace, Sydney, NS and Paul Pace, Halifax, NS; grandchildren, Derrick Dockrill, Kyle and Justin Pace, Sydney and Abby, Sarah and Julia Pace, St. Johns, NL; sisters, Jane McCann, Halifax and Debbie Mattinson, Sydney; sister-in-law, Ernestine Leahan, Halifax and brother-in-law, Harry Mattinson, Sydney; special friend, Debbie Dockrill, Sydney; nieces, Meghan Pearson, Abbie Knott, Jenny Mattinson, and a nephew, Michael Pearson.
Barbara’s life was spent taking care of others, which gave her great joy. She loved her family and friends and always opened her home and her heart with kindness and generosity. Barb and Al loved to travel the world but nothing delighted her more than vacationing with her family in Ingonish and Baddeck or travelling to watch her children and grandchildren play tennis or curl. Barb loved life. She enjoyed curling, golfing and playing bridge with friends. Barbara was a lifelong member of First United Church in Sydney
The family wishes to send special thanks to the doctors, nurses and wonderful staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital where Barbara was given exceptional care. Many thanks to her fantastic friends who faithfully visited, during her long stay in hospital.
There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held at the United Heritage Church, 500 Charlotte St., Sydney, on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Rosemary Godin officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Memorials can be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
