Daniel Melvin McKenzie

Daniel Melvin McKenzie of Bible Hill passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2018 while holding his loving wife’s hand during their daily visit at Cedarstone Nursing Home. Dan’s natural charm and smiles warmed the hearts of everyone who knew him. During his career he was a salesman and enjoyed meeting many people “on the road” and made friends that lasted his lifetime. His early career with the Bank of Montreal provided Dan and his wife Jackie (Ash) opportunity to live in many interesting communities in Ontario, Montreal and the Maritimes. Dan and Jackie made lifelong friendships while posted in these communities away from home. Dan was born in Kentville in 1936 to parents Mildred and Melvin McKenzie. He will be sadly missed by his wife and best friend of 60 years, Jackie who he met in Sydney in 1957 in a bank branch where their love began and blossomed. He is also survived and will be missed by their four daughters (princesses) and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Ken Cooper, Nanaimo BC, Heather and Steve Patton, Bible Hill, NS, Janice and Larry Lutz, Berwick, NS and Dawn McKenzie and Tim Kalybaba, Fonthill, ON, 12 grandchildren (Scott, Kyle, Kayla, Amanda, Brendan, Cameron, Emily, Tommy, Danielle, Sam, Bryce, Keigan), 11 great grandchildren and his sister Marilyn (Hermie) Parker and niece and nephews. Dan adored his family and his dogs and was an avid golfer and sports fan. He enjoyed dancing and travelling with Jackie, he also enjoyed a good party and he never shied away from a debate! His medical condition changed Dad’s daily living in recent years, but he never lost the twinkle in his eye and always had a smile for Jackie and his girls (daughters and caregivers). Special thanks from the family to the staff at Cedarstone and the VON for the care and compassion shown to Dad. Visitation will take place Monday, June 25 from 6 – 8 pm at Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Funeral service will be Tuesday, June 26 at 2 pm in St. John’s Anglican Church, 23 Church St., Truro. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home. Online messages of condolence may be sent to the family by visiting:www.ColchesterCommunity.com
