Patricia ‘Katie’ Elaine (Hancock) Day

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Patricia ‘Katie’ Elaine (Hancock) Day, age 72, on Friday, July 6, 2018 at the Northside General Hospital.
Born August 20, 1945 in Hampden, NL, she was the daughter of the late Gordon and Pansie (Regular), Hancock.
Katie worked for many years as a Bus/Lunch monitor at Seton Elementary and Thompson Jr. High Schools in North Sydney. She loved spending time with children and was very proud of her work with the Breakfast Program at Thompson. She also worked at Robena’s restaurant in North Sydney and became well known for her cooking.
She is survived by her four children, Alicia (Paul) Gordon, Wanda (Gary) Spurvey, both of North Sydney, Frank Day (Krista Lenihan), Pine Grove, NS, Cora (Chris) Jones, Goose Bay, Labrador; her five grandchildren, Cheyenne, John-Ryan, Jenna-Lee, Savannah, Maverick and Seth on the way; her two great-grandchildren, Leah and Aubrey; five brothers, Monte (Authorine) Hancock, Reg (May) Hancock, Christopher (Donna) Hancock, all of Deer Lake, NL, Al (Vera) Hancock, Terrace, BC, Dennis Hancock, Edmonton; four sisters, Phoebe (Bob) Gillam, Cornerbrook, NL, Grace (Tony) Sutton, Cormack, NL, Verna (Baxter) Hoyles and Diane Hancock, both of Terrace, BC.
Katie was predeceased by her husband, John Day; her sisters, Carol M. Lavers, Sandra, and a brother, Eugene.
There will be no visitation by request. A private family burial will take place at a later date at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Cancer Centre, Hospice/Palliative Care of Cape Breton, VON, or any charity.
