It is with profound sadness that the family of Kevin F. St. George announce his passing in his 93rd year, after a long wonderful life and a short illness. Born in Deer Lake, NL, he was the son of the late Jack and Josie St. George. Kevin attended Memorial University and Technical University of Nova Scotia, graduating as a Civil Engineer in 1949. After graduation, he joined the Royal Canadian Navy (Reserve) for a period of 12 years, achieving the rank of Lieutenant. At the same time he began his engineering career at Bowater Newfoundland Limited, now Corner Brook Pulp & Paper mill, retiring in 1990. Kevin is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Blanche St. George, nee Williams; children Corinne (Alan), Dunrobin, ON, Michelle (Bruce), Corner Brook, NL, Yvette (Joe), Stillwater Lake, NS, Sean (Carla), Rocky Harbour, NL, Seumas (Christine), Chatham, IL and Shane (Ken), Georgeville, NS; grandchildren, Andrew, Stuart, Iain, Brett, Duncan, Allison, Natalie, Kevin, Emma, Marion and Chrissy; and sister-in-law, Dossie St. George. He was predeceased by sisters, Louise Young and Mary Holloway, and brother Brendan. He is also survived by loving nieces and nephews and his long-time friends in the Bridge Club. Kevin was community minded and a long term volunteer in Corner Brook and the surrounding area. He served on numerous boards and community organizations, including the Corner Brook Housing Authority, Boy Scouts of Canada, Roman Catholic School Board Building Committee, Community Concerts Association, Humber Rotary Club, Corner Brook Board of Trade, Corner Brook Heart Foundation, Humber Health Care Committee, and the Humber Valley Development Association. An avid skier, he was a longtime volunteer and president of the Corner Brook Ski Club (Marble Mountain). After retirement he assumed the role of Chair of the Marble Mountain Development Corporation, playing a significant role in the growth of the resort. Additional retirement endeavors included a term as a Corner Brook City Councilor, Board Member of the Deer Lake Airport Authority, Chair of the Corner Brook Port Corporation, and Board Member/Chair of the Victorian Order of Nurses, both locally and nationally. Kevin was a proud member and past president of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Western Newfoundland Naval Association. For his lifetime contributions to the Engineering Profession, he was awarded the Distinction of Fellow from the Engineering Institute of Canada in 1978. In 2013, in recognition of his significant volunteer and business contributions, and the resulting positive impact on the City of Corner Brook, and surroundings areas, he was named a recipient of the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador – our province’s highest honour. Special thanks to Dr. Jerome Davis, Rosalind Michaels of Tender Loving Care, home care workers Mary Butler and Marion Murphy, who made it possible for Kevin to stay with Blanche in their home. Further thanks to Andrea Briffett, Dr. Kate Lafferty, and the Palliative Care Team at Western Memorial Hospital for their professional care and kindness during our Father’s final days. A funeral mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer, Mount Bernard Avenue on Monday, July 16, 2018 at 10:00 a.m., Father Andrew White officiating. The burial will follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery, followed by a reception at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 13. Friends may visit the family at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, St. Mark's Avenue on Sunday, July 15th from 2-4 p.m., 7-9 p.m. Flowers graciously accepted. Donations in Kevin’s memory may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion - Branch 13 or the Palliative Care – Western Health or the Shepherds Fund c/o Holy Redeemer Parish.
