Peter Nickelo, age 80 passed away peacefully on Monday, July 16, 2018 at the Glace Bay Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Peter and Margaret (Cooper) Nickelo.
Peter was employed in the coal mines for over 30 years. He was a handyman around the house; fixing and building things was something he truly enjoyed. He was a very kind and compassionate man and never hesitated to help somebody in need. Peter enjoyed a good game of golf, but mostly he loved being in the presence of family and friends enjoying a big meal.
Peter is survived by his wife, Ann (Wilson) Nickelo; two sons, Peter Vincent (Joan), Shubenacadie, NS and James Ervin (Nadia), Lakeshore, Ontario; one sister, Mary Shibinette, Glace Bay; six grandchildren, Peter Alexander (Heidi), Geoffrey Francis (Jasmine), Laura Ann (Nathan), Sarah Marie, Aidan James and Dylan Carl and two great-grandchildren, Ashton Chester and Peter Declan.
Besides his parents, Peter was predeceased by six brothers.
Cremation has taken place. A private service and reception will be held in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel and Reception Centre, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Peter may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
