We the family of the late Rita MacGibbon, formerly of New Waterford, and Weston Ontario, announce her peaceful passing on August 1, 2018, at Harbourstone Enhance Care Centre, Sydney.
Rita was born in Sydney she was the daughter of the late Peter and Mathilda (Arsenault) Muise.
We will always remember mom for her homemaking abilities, sense of humour, her many card games (which she usually won) and always welcoming family and friends into our home.
Mom is survived by her five children, Lloyd (Shirley) MacGibbon, Sally (Gordon) Matheson, Loretta “Lorie” Steadman, Peter MacGibbon, Don (Barbra) MacGibbon. Also surviving are her six grandchildren, Randy (Monica) Matheson, Trina (Rob) Matheson, Kim (Brad) Steadman, Christine MacGibbon, Danny MacGibbon, and Kayla MacGibbon; five great-grandchildren, Ryle (Jill) Matheson, Tessa Matheson, Tia (Joel) Proulx, Jessy Howell, and Maxwell Eibl, and one great-great-granddaughter, Miah Belle Matheson; brother-in-law, Dave (Anne) MacGibbon; also, many nieces and nephews.
Mom was predeceased by her husband, William “Bill” MacGibbon, July 10, 1989; sister, Mary (Frank) Chezenko; brothers, Donnie (Mary) Muise, Joseph and Arthur.
A very special thank you to the staff and mom’s friends at My Cape Breton Home for Seniors, which she considered “home” for many years, she truly loved each and every one of you. Also, to the caring staff at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, who looked after mom in her final days, and a thank you to Dr. Smith and Dr. Hall.
Cremation has taken place, memorial service will be held on Wednesday August 8, 2018 at 11 a.m. in the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home Chapel, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating, with reception to follow. Private family burial at Union Grove Cemetery, New Waterford.
