Janet Viola Meister - 85, of Kentville, passed away peacefully following a lengthy illness, Wednesday, August 8, 2018 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Halls Harbour, she was a daughter of the late James Houghton Sr. and Ruby (Zwicker) Houghton. Janet was employed with Palmeter’s Country Home and Store, Kentville for a number of years. She also worked with Leopold’s Dry Cleaning and Evergreen Home for Special Care. She was a member of the Glooscap Curling Club, where she enjoyed curling with both ladies and mixed teams. Janet was also a member of the Halls Harbour Baptist Church. She was a beloved wife, wonderful mother and loving grandmother. She enjoyed cooking and caring for her family. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Robert “Gus” Meister; their children, Janet (Peter) Clarke, Woodville; Larry (Susan) Meister, Riverview, NB; Linda (Mike) Foster, Grafton; Bev (Brian) Ferguson, Hazlet, SK; a sister, Edie Dunn, Castlegar, BC; a sister-in-law, Joyce Mosher, Halls Harbour; four brothers, James “Jim” (Marjorie) Houghton, Kentville; Fred (Sylvia) Houghton, Halls Harbour; Albert (Roberta) Houghton, Kentville; David (Sandra) Houghton, Kentville; nine grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Bobby Houghton and Harold Mosher; a brother-in-law, Jack Dunn. Cremation has taken place. There was no visitation or funeral service, by request. Interment will take place at a later date in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Donations in memory may be made to the Annapolis Valley VON, the Canadian Cancer Society, Crohn’s and Colitis Canada or the charity of your choice.
