MESSENGER, Carson Smith, 62, Endako, BC and Raynardton, NS. Following a brief battle with cancer, Carson passed away on August 11, 2018 at Yarmouth Regional Hospital with his friend Patty at his side. Born in Shelburne, NS on January 4, 1956 he grew up in West Head and spent the last eleven years in Endako, British Columbia. He was a son of the late Morton and Melba (Cunningham) Messenger. Carson worked as a fisherman, boat broker and finally in mine construction in British Columbia. He will be remembered as loving to spin a good yarn and enjoying a good laugh with friends. Carson had many fond memories of his times spent at “camp”, he loved the outdoors and enjoyed his many hunting trips over the years. He especially enjoyed rabbit hunting and fishing on the lakes which provided him with great material for his hunting tales that he so loved to tell. Carson is survived by sons, Shawn (Natasha Rhodenizer) Messenger and grand daughter Shelby, Kirby Messenger (Spence) and grand daughter Lexis; Riley Messenger (Spence); sisters Emma (Craig) Nickerson and Gena (Steve Jackola) Messenger; step brother Robert Sears; and many nieces and nephews. Carson was very fortunate to have a special friend who fulfilled his wish to return home to Nova Scotia to spend his final days with Patty and Arnie who opened their home and hearts to Carson, providing him with care that was second to none and ensuring that he spent his last days in comfort enjoying the serenity and peacefulness he found on their back deck overlooking the lake. Besides his parents he was predeceased by step father, Edwin Sears; sister, Helena Kaufmann and brother, Russell in infancy. A graveside service was held August 21, 2018 at 2pm from The Old Kirk Cemetery in North East Point, followed by a gathering at the Community Building at West Head Wesleyan Church, Pastor Vince Robertson officiated. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Tri County VON or the Gilles Boudreau and Friends Cancer Help Fund.
