It is with great heartache and deep sadness that we, the family of Joan “Arleen” MacNeil, regretfully announce her passing on August 15, 2018, at the Halifax Infirmary surrounded by her loving family.
Born April 12, 1972, she was the daughter of Howard and Germaine MacNeil.
She was a “survivor” and brought joy and inspiration to those who knew and loved her.
Arleen is survived by her devoted mother, Germaine; aunts and uncles including, Alice (Charlie) Burke, Leo (Thelma) Talbot, Joan (Alison) Young, Eileen Lovett, Sid MacNeil, Freeman (Doreen) MacNeil and Janet Talbot.
She was predeceased by her father, Howard MacNeil; Maurice Talbot, Dorothy MacNeil and Keith Lovett. Also left to mourn are cousins, Susie, Sandy, Brian, Gerard, Glen Howard, Blair, Theresa, Colleen, Michael, Leanne, Brenda, Kelly, Glenn and Darren.
Arleen loved to listen to country music, playing games on the computer, going for long walks in the wheelchair and was the “queen of crazy eights”. Her favourite saying was “all is good under the hood”.
At this time, Germaine would like to thank the staff of Peter’s Place in Bridgewater, where Arleen resided for twenty-three years, for all their love and support. Thanks also to the caregivers from RJF.
There will be no visitation. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Church in Bras d’Or, Cape Breton on Tuesday, August 21st at 2 p.m. Family burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Arleen can be made to the Brain Injury Association of Nova Scotia, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
