Lake, Christopher Lee — 25, of Avondale, Hants County, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 8, with his devoted family by his side. Born July 26, 1985 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, he was the son of Debbie (Dykens) and Garnet Lake of Avondale, Nova Scotia. Christopher was diagnosed with a brain tumour at the age of 18. Chris certainly put up a courageous fight, however, the past year was an unfortunate struggle and a battle he could no longer overcome. Chris had an enthusiasm for life and a love for animals. He remembered everyone, and was appreciative of anything that anyone had done for him. He always had a smile on his face and enjoyed hanging out with friends, watching funny movies, and listening to music. Chris has taught us that life is precious and should be celebrated. He will be remembered always. Chris graduated from Avon View High School, Windsor, in 2004 and participated in the following groups: Stetson & Spurs, Air Cadets, and the Windsor Bluefins. He is survived by his parents, Debbie (Dykens) and Garnet Lake of Avondale, Hants County; siblings, Jennifer Lake, Avondale, Garett Lake (Angie Kelly) and their children Gavin and Addison of Avondale, and Deidre Lake of Calgary, Alberta; maternal grandmother, Dorothy Dykens of Red Deer, Alberta; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his long time pet cat and friend, Kirby. He was predeceased by his infant sister, Erica Dawn Lake; maternal grandfather, Leo Dykens; and paternal grandparents, Harvey and Grace Lake. Cremation has taken place and there was no visitation by request. Memorial service was held 2 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2011 in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home Chapel, 194 King Street, Windsor. A reception followed in Lindsay's Family Reception Centre. Interment will be at a later date. Donations can be made to the Spring Sprint 2011 (www.my.e2rm.com) in which the QE2 Unit 7.3 team is raising funds for the Brain Tumour Foundation. His friend, Tiffany, ran in memory of Chris on Saturday, May 14 in Halifax as part of this team. Other choices for donations are the Hants County SPCA or the Hants Community Hospital Palliative Care Unit, or to a charity of one’s choice. The family would like to thank everyone involved in Chris' care and for their support and help. Online condolences may be sent by clicking on “Sign Guest Book” at www.lindsaysfuneralhome.com, or by mail to 294 Belmont Road, Hants County, Nova Scotia, B0N 2A0.
