FOUGERE, John Russell “Brian” – age 61 of Wilmot, NS, passed away suddenly on Friday, August 24, 2018, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Antigonish, he was a son of the late Russell and Laura (Wood) Fougere. Brian retired after 33 years as a Junior High School teacher having taught school at Middleton Regional High School. He coached Senior Boys Volleyball and taught Driver Education. Brian was actively involved with the Nova Scotia Teachers Union and was a volunteer with the Royal Canadian Legion, Kingston Branch No. 98 and with CAPS Companion Animal Protection Society. Brian was an avid gardener, blueberry farmer, loved sports and enjoyed music. He loved his family dearly and will be missed by all who knew him. Brian is survived by his loving wife, Dawn (nee Shymko) “his bride”, Wilmot; son, Michael Fougere, Halifax; daughter, Chelsea Fougere, Bridgewater; sister, Laurella (David) O’Neil, Frankville; brothers, James “Cliffy” (Jan) Fougere, Kingston, ON; Rodney (Wendy) Fougere, Sudbury, ON; mother and father-in-law, Donald and Evelyn Shymko, Westville; sisters-in-law, Eva Fougere, Sydney River; Debby (Harold) Linthorne, Rocklin; Lesley (Jason) Clish, Pictou; many beloved nieces and nephews and special family friend, Wilena Arsenault, Middleton. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Christina, in infancy and brother, Lloyd. Visitation was held from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Tuesday, August 28, 2018, in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448. Funeral mass took place at 10:00AM Wednesday, August 29, 2018 in St. Monica’s Roman Catholic Church, 41 Connaught Avenue, Middleton with Father John MacPherson and Rev. Deacon Don Boudreau officiating. A reception for family and friends followed the service. Donations in Brian’s memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
