Passed in: Sydney, Nova Scotia
Passed on: September 13th, 2018

It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister, Helen Anne Cantwell, age 52, on Thursday, September 13, 2018, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born December 13, 1965, to Murdock and Pearl (Pattengale) Macpherson, she was the second oldest of five children.
After High School, Helen married the love of her life, Jim Cantwell. For 35 years they had a collaborative and caring relationship based on mutual support and a deep love for one another.
Known for her constant nurturing and generous demeanor, she spent 12 years caring for others at the Northside Guest Home before moving to Alberta for a brief time to be with her family. Her spirit encouraged her family and friends to persist in the face of many struggles. After her unwavering devotion saved her daughter Danielle, the two returned to Sydney Mines with their beloved Yorkies, Toby and Ky. Helen faithfully continued to care for her husband and children from afar. Helen was a natural leader and truly compassionate person, always putting the needs of others before her own.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jim Cantwell; her parents, Murdock and Pearl Macpherson; her children, Jamie (David), Edmonton, Danielle, at home, and Stephen, Edmonton. Also left to mourn are her five treasured grandchildren, Madisyn, Memphys, Lemmy, Layne and Nashville, all of Edmonton; her siblings, Charlene (Pierre), Quebec, Shauna (Frank), Sydney Mines, Dougie (Marsha), Halifax, and Lloyd (Wanda), Whitney Pier; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and close friends.
Helen was predeceased by her father and mother-in-law, James and Francis (MacDonald), and sister-in-law, Judy (Cantwell) Taylor.
Visitation for Helen Cantwell will be held in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Main St., Sydney Mines, Sunday, September 16, 2018, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.
A celebration of her life will take place Monday, at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, with Fr. James Oliver officiating. The burial will be in the parish cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to her family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
