Hendrikus Wilhelmus “Hank” Heukshort, 76 of River John, Nova Scotia, passed away September 13, 2018 in Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital, Tatamagouche.
Born, July 13, 1942 in Lichtenvoorde, Holland, he was a son of the late Hendrikus and Johanna (Broshuis) Heukshorst.
Hank was a graduate of McGill University, Montreal, in Agricultural Science. He worked as a provincial swine specialist with the Department of Agriculture in Truro for ten years before going farming in River John in 1976 until retirement.
Surviving are, his wife, Antonetta “Netta” (van Dommelen); his children, Joanne (David) Hatch, Stittsville, Ontario, Coleen (Kenneth) Tattrie, Denmark, Nova Scotia, Patrick (Dawn), Lake Mary, Florida, Hank, Medicine Hat, Alberta; grandchildren, Thomas and Serena Hatch, Garrett, Cole and Logan Tattrie, Colton, Deverie and Reese Heukshorst, Zoey Heukshorst; brothers, Anthony (Catherine), John (Mary) and Leo (Liza); sisters, Annie (Leo) Cox, Hermina (Ted) van Zutphen, Maria van Vulphen, Josephine (Paul) Johnson, Louise (Murray) Smith, Rosa van den Hoogen, Regina (Arie) Schop; nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, September 16 in Coulter’s Funeral Home, Tatamagouche (902-657-3288).
Funeral Mass will be 2 p.m. Monday, September 17 in St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, 4542 Hwy. 6 in Brule, Fr. Dariusz Miskowicz officiating. Interment will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Middleton, Colchester County.
Family flowers only, please. Memorial donations to St. Michael’s Silent City Cemetery would be appreciated.
