K. Kurtis ‘Uncle’ Mackie

It is with grief-stricken hearts that we, the family of Kurtis Mackie (age 30) announce his sudden passing at home on September 20, 2018.
Kurtis was the loving son of Kevin and Dollena (Saccary) Mackie, brother to Angela, devoted uncle to Wyatt and Elin, grandson of Thelma (Currie) Mackie, godfather to Emma and Chloe, and boyfriend to Kaily McCormick. Also left to mourn are many heartbroken aunts, uncles, cousins, a close group of friends, and his special fur buddy Stormy.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, John Bernard Mackie; maternal grandparents, Mose and Alice Saccary; aunts, Shirley Doucette, Joan MacLeod, Marion Saccary; uncles, Wendell Mackie, Lockie MacLeod, and cousins, Leon Mackie, Brandon Kelly.
Kurtis enjoyed and appreciated the important things in life; being a momma’s boy, good times with friends and neighbours, whether it be for a beer, bonfire, or just a laugh. He’d happily give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.
Lovingly referred to as “Uncle” by his niece and nephew, he took great joy in spending time with them. Pizza and garlic fingers were always on the menu and whether it was before/after school time with Elin or chats with Wyatt over his bottomless pot of coffee, these were the highlights of Uncle’s day.
A big teddy bear, Kurtis wore his heart on his sleeve and he never let you leave without a big “I love ya!”. Once he squeezed you into his massive bear hug you’d swear you felt it in your soul.
Kurtis your loss leaves us with a hole in our hearts that can never be filled. Your tremendous smile has gifted us with memories that will never fade.
Spread those wings little bro...
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 25 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
The funeral service will take place on Thursday, September 27 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel followed by a reception. Fr. Duaine Devereaux presiding. Cremation to follow the service.
