William (Bill) MacDonald passed away peacefully with family by his side at Victoria Co. Memorial Hospital on Sept. 23, 2018.
Born in Tarbot, Sept. 18, 1937, Bill was a son of the late Murdock and Rachael (Rita) MacDonald.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Aleta Humphreys. He was a doting uncle to nephews, Donald (Beth) Dunlop, David (Grace) Dunlop, Wayne (the late Cathy) MacDonald, Dale MacDonald; and nieces, Diane (Mike) O’Sullivan, Janice (Dave) Phillips, Amy MacDonald; sisters-in-law, Janie-Lee Silas and Sandra
(Harry) Ferguson. Many grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins and friends also mourn his loss.
Bill was predeceased by his first wife, Heather (Fowler); sister, Anna (Gordon) Dunlop; and brothers, Donald (Isabel) and Murtice (Dolly).
He received his BA degree from Mount Allison University. From 1955 to 1987, Bill proudly served in the RCAF, retiring in Ottawa as Major, Procurement and Supply Division. He returned to his Cape Breton roots, taking great pride in restoring and beautifying his ancestral property. Bill and Aleta shared wonderful trips to Newfoundland, Las Vegas, B.C. and the Maritimes. He enjoyed being a hospitable host to family and friends who visited over the years.
Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Wed., Sept. 26th.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thurs., Sept. 27th at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, North River, with Rev. Fern Reeve officiating. Family flowers only.
Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of choice.
