Vivian Lennon

Passed on: October 5th, 2018

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dear wife, mother, and friend who passed unexpectedly on October 5, 2018 at age 70. Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Vivian was the daughter of the late George and May Long.
Vivian approached life with an open heart and a kind word to all she encountered which resulted in her gaining many friendships and acquaintances. Her ability to make a friend from a complete stranger was uncanny and she made many over her years.
Her connection with people was the basis of her early career as a hairdresser. Vivian owned and operated her own hair salon in Sydney for over 20 years. Subsequently, she devoted her work-life to helping those in residential care being both their greatest champion and supporter but also a dear friend. They were an important part of her family circle. It was not uncommon for Vivian to open her home to a resident and have them spend the holidays with her family rather than be alone. Her compassion for people, particularly those whom were not as fortunate as her or her family, was immense. She tried in her own way to make them feel special and provide some happiness in whatever way she could.
Vivian was an avid skater who approached the ice as a dancer with a pair of dance shoes. She also enjoyed walking, skiing and relaxing on a sandy beach in Cape Breton Island. Vivian especially enjoyed spending the days of summer gathered with family and friends at Gillis Lake and Irish Vale. She was the life of any gathering injecting a contagious laugh, a story or two and singing along to a tune from days passed.
She is survived by the love of her life, best friend, and husband of 45 years, Michael Lennon; her son, Chad Lennon (Marcy Dalton); daughter, Vanessa Lennon-MacNeil (Steven MacNeil), and granddaughter, Logan Lennon. Vivian lived for family, was a proud grandmother, and a devoted friend.
Vivian also leaves behind her sisters, Louise (Dave) Cunningham, Virginia (Joe) Cignelli, Shirley Taylor, Lala (Francis) Morrison, and brothers, Charlie (Anne) Long, Cameron Long, Georgie (Ruth) Long, Gerry (Mary) Long, Jackie Long and Murray Long. Vivian was the aunt to many nieces and nephews who will miss her greatly.
Vivian is predeceased by daughters, Robin and Monica in infancy. She is also preceded by sisters, Lilian Brunette, Evelyn ‘Sis’ Stevens, and brother, Bobby Long.
The family would like to thank the first responders who did everything possible to keep Vivian with us. We send our love and gratitude. The family would also like to thank the management and staff of Cambridge Suites for their kindness and generosity over the last week. It was very much appreciated.
Visitation will take place at TW Curry Parkview in Sydney, on Thursday, October 11 from 2-4 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, October 12 at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Parish, officiated by Father Burke, followed by a celebration of her life, and burial at Resurrection Cemetery.
In Vivian’s memory, flowers or a donation may be made to Special Olympics Nova Scotia.
