George Alfred ‘Alfie’  Rogers

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Alfie Rogers, age 89 of Glace Bay, on Monday, October 8, 2018 at Palliative Care, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Antigonish, he was the son of the late Freeman and Mary (Rennie) Rogers.
Alfie was employed as a lineman for over 40 years with Nova Scotia Power. He truly enjoyed sports, especially watching the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays, he was a diehard fan of both clubs. Alfie loved playing cards, especially, crib.
Alfie will be remembered as a very independent man who didn’t like to mince words; he could be outspoken at times; but he was always a man of his word.
He is survived by one son, Gerald ‘Gerry’ (Gail) Rogers, Port Hood; two sisters, Louise (Late John B. Chisholm), St. Andrews, Eileen (Earl Turner), Halifax; six grandchildren, Kimberly LeBlanc (Chris), Bradley LeBlanc (Rebecca), Jason Farrell (Janet), Craig Farrell (Nicole), Justin Rogers, Ashli Rogers, and two great-grandchildren, Emma Rogers and Jenna Farrell.
Alfie was predeceased by his wife, Helen (MacGillivary) Rogers (2014); a son, George Rogers; two daughters, Norma (Rogers) Farrell and Marie LeBlanc; six sisters, Theresa, Helen, Alice, Mary, Caroline, Eileen; three brothers, Louis, Tommy and Freeman John.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 12 from 2-4 and 7- 9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The Funeral Mass is Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay followed by a reception in the church foyer. Fr. Duaine Devereaux officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
