RUSE, Alice, age 101 of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia passed away peacefully on October 14, 2018 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born on July 23, 1917, in Clam Point, Shelburne Co., she was a daughter to the late Freeland and Matilda (Perry) Nickerson. Alice lived in Manitoba in her younger years where she met her husband John Ruse before moving back to Nova Scotia in the 1960’s. Once back in Nova Scotia she worked at Zellers in Kentville and Yarmouth. She was an active member of Zion Baptist Church until it was closed and demolished in 2014. She supported many charities, including the Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and the Canadian Bible Society. At the same time she had a large group of friends and family that supported her through her later years, due to her kindness and their respect for her wisdom. Although she didn’t have any children of her own she was very fond of all her nieces and nephews. She is survived by her sisters, Betty, Edna; and many nieces and nephews; and caregivers, Marilyn Murray and Marilyn Donaldson. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband John; and siblings, Elmer “Barney”, David, Blanchard, Owen, Raymond, Ellsworth, Harvey, Rita and Sarah. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation was held Friday, October 19, 2018 from 7-9 P.M. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service was held Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 2 P.M . in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. A.D. “Bill” Newell officiated. Interment followed in Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery.
