Clare Gorrill Dennis

Clare Gorrill Dennis, of Port Dover ON, passed away on October 11, 2018, at Norfolk General Hospital, Simcoe ON, at the age of 88. Beloved husband and best friend of Julia, he was the pride and love of her life for over 65 years. Dearly loved father and father-in-law of Graham and Karen Dennis of Glen Haven, N.S., Gregory and Cynthia Dennis of Bath ON, Angela and Brian Jessop of Halifax, and Philip Dennis and Vincent Chan of Mississauga. Loving grandfather of Philip, Andrea, Mark, Scott, Amber (Dennis) Andrew, Anna, Leah, Nicole (Jessop) and Great Grandfather of Charlie, John, Philippa (Dennis) and Breagh McCabe and loving uncle of numerous nieces and nephews. He will be fondly remembered by brothers and sisters-in-law, Arnett and Maralee Dennis of South Dakota, Edgar and Janet Dennis of P.E.I., Rose Marie Dennis of Halifax and Jenny Dennis of P.E.I. Predeceased by parents William and Ruth Dennis, and siblings (in law) Wanda (Bob) Hope, Celie Dennis, Keith (Hazel) Dennis, Erwin (Olive) Dennis, Reagh Dennis and Emily Dennis. Born in Arlington P.E.I., Clare was raised on Port Hill Farm and attended Prince of Wales College, Charlottetown. As a young man he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, rising to the rank of Flight Lieutenant and Navigator. A school teacher for twenty years in Oakville ON, he finished his working life, as a Stationary Engineer at Stelco, Nanticoke ON. He earned his B.A. (71) and M. Ed (77) at the University of Toronto. His life-long love of aviation, continued in his later years as a volunteer tour guide at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, Mount Hope, ON. A modest man with a heart of gold, Clare loved to spend time with his family and friends, he will be dearly missed by all. A memorial service will be held at St James Anglican Church in Port Hill, P.E.I., on October 27, 2018 at 1 p.m., followed by interment St. James Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to St. Paul's Anglican Church, Port Dover, St. James' Anglican, Port Hill, or the Warplane Heritage Museum.
