George David 'Wendell' MacKinnon

Born In: Neils Harbour, Nova Scotia
Born: February 19th, 1939

It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of George David "Wendell" MacKinnon, 79 of Smelt Brook, NS. Surrounded by his loving family, Wendell died of a broken heart after the loss of his dear wife, Marie, just one month ago.
Born in Neils Harbour on February 19, 1939 to the late George Joseph and Willena Elizabeth (Fitzgerald) MacKinnon, Wendell enjoyed growing up with his brothers and sisters in a large loving family. He met and married the love of his life, Marie MacKinnon, and together they raised five children - Wendell's greatest joys. During his working years, Wendell obtained a welding ticket, he worked as a labourer at Wreck Cove, but spent most of his years lobster fishing with his love Marie, by his side. Wendell made great friends wherever he went and always had a kind word for everyone (except politicians - lol). He loved to play cards (he always wanted to win) and his favourite game was horseshoes with friends and family on a fine summer day. He was an avid hockey fan and loved watching the games with his family and friends all around.
Wendell is survived by his children, Gladstone (MarySue), Bruce (Georgina), Ingonish, Natalie, Keon, Smelt Brook, Scott (Victoria), Manitoba. His grandchildren, Kyle (Tiffany) Truro, Logan (Angela), Fort McMurray, Justine (Troy) Smelt Brook, Blake, Desiria (Allan) Ingonish, Andrew, Smelt Brook, Katrina, Port Hawkesbury, Brittany, Edmonton and Tyler, Manitoba. Step grandchildren, Justin and Stephane Maynard (Cheticamp). Great-Grandchildren, Declan, Leighton, Ellis, Lexie, Maci, Liam and Harley, and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Siblings, Verna (Fraser) Fraser, Lorraine (Tommy) Williams, Everett (Brenda), Jocelyn (Jackie) Smith, Wanda (David) Smith, Sheila (Raymond) Briand and “adopted” brother, Floyd MacKinnon. He was predeceased by his siblings, Lenora (Dave) Ashford, Clarence (Vivian), Howard (Cordella), John MacKinnon, a brother in infancy, baby Gladstone.
There will be no visitation or service.
