We regret to announce the peaceful passing of Madonna Marie (Haley) Sampson, age 87, on Thursday, October 18, 2018, at the Northside Community Guest Home.
Born in Lamoline, Nfld., on January 10, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Phillip and Dorothy Haley.
She moved to Montreal in 1947 and found employment with Woolworth’s, where she remained for 35 years. It was here that she met her husband, George Sampson; they married in 1964. In 1985 they moved to Big Bras d’Or, where she became a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the BBDVFD. Madonna was an avid dart player, and loved a good game of cards.
She is survived by her sisters, Bernice Blunt (Charles), Texas, and Sheila Slaney, Nfld. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Evelyn and Alice, and brothers-in-law, Frank (Bev), and Harold (Georgette); many nieces and nephews, also special grand-nephew, Stephen Jardine.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, George; sisters, Suzanne, Lucie and Bride, and brothers, Brandon, Frank, and Leo.
Special thanks to Dr. Michel McKeough and Louise, Dr. Poulos and Susan with Palliative Care, the staff of Cara House at the Northside Guest Home, and the staff at My Cape Breton Home in North Sydney…you were like family.
Her family will receive visitors on Monday, October 22, 2018, at 10 a.m. in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home.
A celebration of her life will take place at 11 a.m. in the funeral home, with Fr. James Oliver officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Madonna’s memory may be made to the SPCA or the Cape Breton Cancer Unit.
