After a courageous battle with cancer, Phyllis passed away on Friday, October 19, 2018, at the age of 71, at home, surrounded by her family. Phyllis never gave up hope and she was never alone. Born in Glace Bay on April 1, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Robert 'Fess' and Remigeus (MacIntyre) Anderson.
Phyllis was a registered nurse and graduated from the St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing. She also graduated from St. F.X. University, BSC in Nursing program.
Phyllis always stressed the importance of providing care and compassion for her patients. She worked in out-patients for many years and later in administration as a unit manager at the Northside General, New Waterford Consolidated and Glace Bay hospitals. Phyllis’ kindness will not be forgotten by those who knew her.
Phyllis had many interests, especially, golf with the girls (Mary, Heather, Marcie and Mona). She was also a regular at aqua fitness with Ruth Gardiner, at the Northside Pool. Last but not least, she enjoyed travelling to Florida with the girls and her mother.
Phyllis is survived by her husband of 49 years, Joe, and her children, Brett (Jennifer), Andrea (Mitchell Hall) and Chris. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Aydan, Ava, Elle, Bode, and her brother, Keith Anderson.
Besides her parents, Phyllis was predeceased by her sisters, Trudy and Marilyn and her brother, Robert.
In closing, we would like to thank the VON and Palliative Care team, led by Susan MacKenzie and Dr. Burns. Also, to the staff of (4) West at the Northside General and the staff of 3B at the Cape Breton Regional for your care and compassion.
Last but not least, we would like to thank the many doctors who helped Phyllis during her illness. A special thank you to Dr. Peter Poulos, Dr. Yolanda D’Intino and the hospitalists at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
There will be no visitation by request. A Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Doug MacDonald presiding. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
