It is with broken hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Basil Gerard Grouchy, age 88 years. Basil passed suddenly, but peacefully, away at Agnes Pratt Home on Saturday, October 20th, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Basil, or Poppy, as he was addressed by so many, was a beautiful, gentle soul, with a contagious smile, unprecedented sense of humor, and an enormous heart. His unconditional love for his family and his resilient faith are qualities he bestowed upon all those who loved him. Predeceased by his parents Alex and Isabelle, sisters Florence and Marjorie, and brothers William, Alex and Kevin. Leaving to mourn, with a lifetime of beautiful memories, his devoted wife of 60 years, Marjorie; daughters: Anne (Bob), Judi (Rene), Janet (Jim); sons: Basil (Joyce), Gary (Bev); 12 grandchildren, whom he adored: Janine, Jamie (Nina), Jodi, Angela (Junior), Chris (Kerri), Jenny, Michael, Basil, Amy, Kim, Robyn (Ryan), Melissa (Matt); 8 great-grandchildren: Nia, Jordan, Myles, Jamieson, Natalie, John-Patrick, Martin and Arianna; and a large circle of family and friends. Special thanks to the staff at both Pleasantview Towers and Agnes Pratt Home for their care and kindness over the past four years. Visitation will take place at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road, on Tuesday, October 23rd from 2-9 pm. Mass of Christian burial to take place Wednesday, October 24th, at Mary Queen of the World Church, Topsail Road, at 11 am. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
