Katherine "Katie" Marie Westhaver

Born: September 29th, 1982

Passed on: October 20th, 2018

It is with the heaviest of hearts, that we the family of Katie, have to share the news of her sudden passing; along with her mother, Jennifer Westhaver, on October 20, 2018.
Katie was born to James (Jim) and Jennifer (Donovan) Westhaver of Ingonish Beach, on September 29, 1982. Katie was the youngest of three children.
You would always see Katie with a smile on her face. In schools as a teachers’ assistant, working at the local Freshmart, or this past fishing season on the boat with her best friend and partner in life, Matthew.
Katie was a fighter, a cancer survivor, living her best life with heart disease, and always believed in seeing the positive side of things. Her world revolved around her family and large circle of friends.
Recently, Katie fell in love with getting fit; motivating her team as a Beachbody coach. She was an avid sportsman, always hiking and up for anything outdoors. She also loved being on the open roads, enjoying her motorcycle.
But Katie's greatest accomplishment was being a mom and wonderful role model to her beautiful daughter, Charlee Michelle.
Katie is also survived by her high school sweetheart and partner of 21 years, Matthew Smith; brother, Mitchell (Tammy) Westhaver; nephew, Donovan; niece, Eva; mother-in-law, Joann Smith; brother-in-law, Jamie (Nicole) Smith; nephew, Oliver; sister-in-law, Mandy (Chris) Smith; many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Katie was predeceased by her father, James (Jim); brother, Andrew; father-in-law, Charlie Smith; unborn child; two aunts and an uncle in infancy. She left this world with her loving mother, Jennifer by her side.
Visitation for Katie Westhaver will take place on Friday, October 26, 2018, from
12 – 2 p.m. in St. Peter's Parish Church in Ingonish Beach.
The funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m. in the church, with Fr. Alphonsus Iwuji and Fr. Paul MacGillivray officiating. The burial will be in the parish cemetery.
A reception will follow at Smokey Recreation Building (Ingonish Rink).
In lieu of flowers, donations in Katie’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
Words of comfort may be forwarded to her family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
