Kathleen Anne Bourgeois (nee Murphy) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville at the age of 77 years. A ‘townie’, Kathleen was born on June 29, 1941, in St. John’s, NL. She grew up on 8 Bond Street, eldest daughter of the late Nicholas and Bridget Murphy (nee Leonard). She will forever be in the hearts and stories of her loving husband, Francis; her six children: Brian, Robyn (Laurent), Lisa (Bill), Jill, Jason (Corinn), and Anne-Marie (Kevin); and her eleven grandchildren: Victor, Juliette, Oscar, Caroline, Gabrielle, Maggie, Laura, Oliver, Meaghan, Georgia, and Xavier. Kathleen will be missed by her brothers: Don and Corinne (deceased) Murphy and Paddy Murphy, as well as Francis’ siblings and their spouses: Libby (deceased) and Clyde Miller, Norma and Phil (deceased) Trask, Jeannette (deceased) and Cosmos (deceased) Gaudon, Helen and Roger Goyette, and Larry and Iris (deceased) Bourgeois. Kathleen was dearly loved by her many nieces, nephews, relatives and her large circle of friends. 18 year old Kathleen came to Stephenville in 1958 to teach ‘for one year’. One year turned to many, and she found herself in different schools and different grade levels, until her retirement in 1993. Over the years, ‘Mrs. Bourgeois’ touched the hearts and inspired the minds of her students and fellow colleagues. Beyond the walls of her classroom, she volunteered tirelessly in a variety of settings within the community and the church. Generous and thoughtful, she has always gone ‘above and beyond’ for her family, friends, colleagues, and community members. We would like to thank Dr. Sheila Lewis and the Palliative Care Staff of Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital for their care and compassion during Kathleen’s hospitalization. The family will be receiving friends at Russells Funeral Home in Stephenville on Thursday, November 1st, 2018 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. The funeral service will take place at St. Stephen’s Parish on Friday, November 2nd, 2018 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, we would ask that you donate to Stephenville Community Food Bank.
