Joan Maloney (nee Foley)

Passed on: October 31st, 2018

Passed peacefully away on October 31st, 2018, in the presence of her loving family Joan Maloney (nee Foley) aged 89 years. Predeceased by her husband, Joe Maloney and her daughters Marie and Genevieve, parents Florence and Ralph Foley, brothers Patrick and Ronald Foley, sisters Betty Short and Helen Foley. Mom grew up in St John’s, attended Memorial University, moved to Bonavista Bay in the late 1940’s where she was a school teacher for several years. She raised 11 children, all of whom she loved unconditionally. In turn, we all adored her. As our family grew to include husbands, wives, partners, and then grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, they were equally blessed to be within the circle of Mom’s love. Throughout the years, her children’s friends were treated to her home cooking and her quiet joy in having a full house. She was unstinting in her pride of her family’s successes. She was the centre to whom we all returned with loving devotion. There was always a family member who spent several hours daily keeping her company while at Pleasantview Towers. Leaving to mourn with precious and loving memories are her children Mary Dwyer (Bruce), Patrick (Debbie), Joe ( Diane), Jim (Edith), Florence, Ralph, Pauline (Wanda), Leonard (Yolanta), Joan Antle (Ernie), Donna Nolan (Jim). Mom as well left to mourn her sisters Genevieve Foley and Pauline Hennessey, as well as her sister-in-law Elizabeth Dobbin. Also left to mourn are her 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by special life-long friends Madeline and John Adams and Wanda Muggeridge who all held a special place in Mom’s heart. A sincere thank you to staff of 4NE, Pleasantview Towers who cared for Mom for the past three years. Funeral will be held in King’s Cove, Bonavista Bay, Sts. Peter and Paul Church. Visitations will be on Friday, November 2nd from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 1pm at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in King’s Cove. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations to a charity of their choice. She died as she lived, quietly and with dignity. She will be forever missed by those who loved her.
