Florence Winnifred Anstey (Burt) 91, Sydney River (formerly of Whitney Pier), only daughter of Harry Alfred Burt and Laura Elizabeth Jane Burt (LeRiche). Florence passed peacefully from this world Tuesday, November 6th at Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney July 22, 1927, she is survived by husband of 65 years, John Anstey and their children, Grant Anstey (Caroline), Marlene Gavel (Steven), Sharon Clossin (Curtis div.), Michelle Anstey (Tony Antle); her brother, Bill Burt of Toronto and sister-in-law, Rita Burt. She is also survived by grandsons, David Ball, Bradley Anstey, Kristopher and Jayson Anstey, Jordan Gavel and granddaughter, Shannon Gavel; step-grandsons, Clayton and Jordan Antle; great grandchildren, Serenity and Wyatt. Florence also had a special bond with her nieces and nephews whom she held dear and cherished the opportunities to spend time with them.
Florence was predeceased by daughter, Lauren Rosine; daughter-in-law, Donna Anstey (Dupuis); granddaughter, Natasha Rosine; brothers, Howard Burt, Harry (Peggy) Burt, and Edgar(Clara) Burt; sister-in-law, Judy.
Florence was extremely proud of her Newfoundland and Whitney Pier roots and wished to acknowledge the supportive web of relatives and delightful times spent with the families Kettle, Ley, Mullins, Sampson and Hoban. To use words like group or circle are pale in comparison to the depths and breadths of friendships she had surrounding her. The dearest ones, you know who you are, she will be watching over you. To the end of her days, she nurtured old friendships and made new ones, genuinely engaging and learning about their lives.
Heartfelt thanks to all the caregivers on 3B of CBRH and 4E at NSG Hospital and the helpful support from Shauna Walters and Boo, Kathy Foster Macintyre, Florence MacPherson, Shelley Hope-Brown, Paula Curry and family, and Michael Gaetan.
Florence was proud of her time spent working at the Supreme Court of Canada in Ottawa, the General Office, CJCB Radio, and Royal Bank Main Branch. She cared deeply about education and was a model for lifelong learning. She followed her curiosities and tried her hand at myriad of hobbies and crafts. She excelled at painting, baking, knitting, crochet, ceramics and stained-glass arts. Many people have received her love in kindness with handmade blankets and outfits, casseroles, and baked treats. Her kindness and compassion were exemplary, her ability to listen unfathomable, her presence will be greatly missed.
As per her wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. A family-only farewell will be held at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, November 13. Friends and family are welcome to gather at the family home Friday evening, Nov. 9th.
