DESROCHES
John Nazaire (Ned)

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of John Nazaire (Ned) DesRoches, on Saturday, Nov. 10/18 at the age of 94. Ned was born to Sylvere and Denise on Feb. 1, 1924 in Miscouche, PE, the second of 10 children. He grew up in Urbainville, where he went to school and worked on the farm. And then, like so many young men before him, Ned enlisted in the military in 1942. He proudly served his country, taking part in the invasion of Sicily and continuing on to the liberation of Europe. His medals included 1939-1945 Star, The Italy Star, France-Germany Star, The Defense Medal, Canada Volunteer Service Medal and the 1939-1945 War medal. Ned was officially discharged from the army in November 1945. He was proud of his service and in his later years he thoroughly enjoyed Regimental reunions, remained active in the Legion and always loved participating in Remembrance Day ceremonies. He spent the next 33 years in Ontario, with his late wife Eleanor. He worked in the plumbing trade before they returned to the Island in 1979 to build a house and retire. After the passing of his wife, Ned met and married Loretta. They shared a love for music, dancing, playing cards and for each other. This union expanded Neds loving family even more. Ned spent his retirement enjoying life. A devoted Catholic, Ned always had a smile, a twinkle in his eye and always spoke kindly of everyone. A mischievous sense of humour and his quick wit never faltered with age. He was generous, compassionate and selfless. He did love a new car though but maybe not as much as he loved a good game of cards, where most certainly he will be missed. Ned is preceded in death by his parents Silvere and Denise, his siblings Ralph DesRoches, Nora Gallant, Doug DesRoches, Therese Cormier and Joe DesRoches. He is survived by his beloved wife Loretta, Loretta's daughter Joyce, to who Ned was like a father and she like a daughter. Also left to mourn Loretta's sons Bill and Paul who loved him dearly, His sisters, Marguerite LeBlanc, Millie Cormier and Marie DesRoches, his brother Arthur DesRoches, nephew Mo who was especially close to Ned, grandchildren and great grandchildren (from marriage) and nieces, nephews, cousins and the many friends he made over his many years. We will all miss him dearly for the kind and loving man that he was.
A viewing will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home, Urbainville, Sunday November 18th 2-4pm. Funeral services will take place Monday November 19 at St Jacques and St Phillippe Roman Catholic Church, Egmont Bay. Service will begin at 2:30. Burial immediately following the service. Reception will be held in the church basement. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 17 in Wellington.
