It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Arthur Thomas Bailey, age 81, on Monday, November 26, 2018, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born and raised in Sydney Mines, Art was the son of the late Frederick and Lucy (McConville) Bailey. He was a devout member of Holy Family Parish, Sydney Mines.
Art, in his early years worked in the mines, for the Iannetti Brothers, and the Town of Sydney Mines. He was a past member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Sydney Mines Legion. He will be remembered for his wit and great sense of humour. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends, including friends and staff at the coffee shop.
Art is survived by his step-daughter, Sharon (Leopold); his granddaughter, Cheryl (Derrick), and great-grandchildren, Bailey and Ryder. Also left to mourn is his sister, Anne Howard; brother, David Bailey; special family friend, Mary Viva; brothers-in-law, Wayne (Mary), Brian (Maryanne) and Kevin (Corrine) Boudreau; sisters-in-law, Judy and Monica Boudreau, Barbara Dunn; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Art was predeceased by his loving wife, Yvonne (Boudreau); father and mother-in-law, Amedie and Nettie Boudreau; brother, John; sisters, Renelda Howard, Agnes and Rose Marie; brothers-in-law, Thomas and Sid Howard, Bud and Ronnie Boudreau; sisters-in-law, Pam Bailey and Rose Reid, and nephew, John Arthur Howard.
The family would like to send special thanks to the staff at the Northside Guest Home, the nurses of 4 West, Northside General, and family doctors Dr. M. Knott and Dr. Michel McKeough for their professional care and support.
In keeping with Art’s wishes, there will be no visitation. The Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, November 29, 2018, at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. James Oliver officiating. A reception will follow in the parish hall. Donations in Art’s memory may be made to the Lung Association or a charity of one’s choice.
