Major Blanche Pike (nee Douglas)

Passed peacefully away at the Salvation Army Glenbrook Lodge in the presence of her loving family on Saturday, December 1, 2018, Major Blanche Pike age 90 years. Predeceased by her loving husband Major Cecil Pike (2014); her eldest son George; brothers: John (Blanche), Leslie (Ada), Fred; and in-laws: Aubrey Pike (Frances), Ray Pike (Fronie), Joe Pike (Josephine), Clayton Pike (Mona), Doris Mahle (Henry), Hilda Hillier (Bob), Gill Higdon and Major Bramwell Thorne. She is lovingly remembered by her children Norma (Kip), Max (Denise), Elizabeth (Rick), Keith (Shona), John (Sheila), Stephen, and daughter-in-law Verley. Missing their “Nan” are 11 grandchildren: Angela, Elizabeth, Kelly, Clifford, Maxwell, Katharine, Sarah, Daniel, Steven, Jonathan, Abygail; and 15 great-grandchildren: Nathan, Nyah, Noah, Taylor, Brayden, Lauryn, Lukas, Jonah, Emily, Kenzi, Avery, Will, Owen, Jackson and Denver. Also left to mourn sister Major Georgie Thorne “Maude”; brothers-in-law: Winston Pike (Carol), Doug Pike (Lorraine); sisters-in-law: Martha Douglas, Ada Higdon, Fran Button (Don) and Ruby Williams (Clyde). Blanche will also be missed by extended family and a large circle of friends. Special thank you to all of the exceptional staff of the Salvation Army Glenbrook Lodge. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue on Monday, December 3 from 7-9 pm, and on Tuesday, December 4 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral service will take place from the Salvation Army Citadel, Adams Avenue, on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 2 pm, with interment to follow at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Blackmarsh Road. As expressions of sympathy, donations in Blanche’s memory may be made to the St. John’s Citadel YP Band, Salvation Army Glenbrook Lodge, or a charity of one’s choice.
