Muriel Henderson

Passed on: December 6th, 2018

The family of Muriel Anne Henderson regrets to inform of her passing on December 6, 2018. Born November 4, 1924, in Sydney, she is the daughter of the late Earle and Mabel (MacRae) MacLean.
Until retirement, Muriel was employed as office manager of London Life for 37 years.
Muriel walked her talk. She led a life of service to the community, starting with her church, First United, where she filled leadership roles with the UCW, the Stewardship Committee and the Executive Board.
As a youth, she was heavily involved in Girl Guides and went on to serve as Area Commissioner.
An early advocate of services for seniors, Muriel was instrumental in the founding of Club 55 and Meals on Wheels and served a term as a member of the Nova Scotia Senior Citizen’s Secretariat.
When she retired, she became involved in community development and was present at the creation of New Dawn Enterprises, serving on the Board of Directors.
She served a term as president of the United Way and was honoured by the Business and Professional Women’s Club for her service to the community.
Well into her senior years, she continued to volunteer with the Sydney Forks Recreation Centre seniors’ and with Revenue Canada’s community tax preparer program.
Muriel, ‘Moome’ to her adoring nieces and nephews, was an avid gardener and took great care working in the flowerbeds surrounding her home.
In earlier times, she was considered a good golfer as well as a curler. She enjoyed a good hockey game and would often be found with Harry cheering on the Oilers or the Eagles.
She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Harry; nephews, David (Rob) and Sandy (Mary Louise) Greig, Rob (Deb) and Jim (Sue) MacLean; nieces, Lisa Greig-Simonds, Margo (Tim) Palmeter and Allison McAdams.
Besides her parents, Muriel is predeceased by her sister, Fawnie (Alf) Greig of Sydney, and brother, Bob (Marg) MacLean of Peterborough, ON.

Thursday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Rosemary Godin officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date.
