Simeon Nathan Barter
October 26, 1935 – December 7, 2018

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Simeon Nathan Barter announces his peaceful passing surrounded by his loving family on Friday December 7, at Dr. Charles L Legrow Health Center after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease at the age of 83 years. Born in Cape La Hune, Simeon was the son of the late Simeon Sr. And Victoria Barter. He was also predeceased by his brother John Barter, father and mother in law Harry and Florence Baggs, brother in laws; Henry Morgan, Henry Dominie, Fred Banks and James Coley. Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of precious memories, his devoted wife Maisie (nee Baggs) of 58 years. A proud father and grandfather he will also be sadly missed by his children; Kathy (Paul) Organ, David Barter (Janice Enwood) all of Port aux Basques, Tracey Barter (Mark McKinnon) of Ontario. Granddaughters; Taylor Barter, Sarah Organ and great granddaughter Mia Stiers. Loving brother of Effie Dominie, Elizabeth Morgan, Ada (Malcolm) Palmer, Frances Coley and George Barter as well as his uncle Edgar (Florence) Pink who was more like a brother. He will also be fondly remembered by his sister and brother in laws; Ida (Nathan) Keeping, James (Shirley) Baggs, Ivan (Diane) Baggs, Leah (Derek) Harvey and Audrey Barter. Simeon was a very quiet man whose unconditional love for his family and community was evident in his passion of teaching and nurturing the many children who he taught in his 40 plus years as a teacher. He was an avid gardener in his spare time and anyone who ever got to see his office at school could tell you it was like a beautiful greenhouse filled with many different, beautiful plants, each one getting special care and attention. Simeon was also very involved with St. James Anglican Church, he was an active lay minister for 58 years and only retired from this position after becoming ill. He has touched many lives and anyone who was fortunate enough to have been blessed with his presence will fondly remember his quiet demeanour and kindness to all. In keeping with Simeon's wishes cremation has taken place. The family received friends and neighbours on Monday December 10, from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at East Haven Funeral Home. Funeral services took place on Tuesday December 11, 2 P.M. at St. James Anglican Church, Channel officiated by Rev. Ed. Coleman. Inurnment was followed at St. James Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. James Anglican Church Memorial fund. Funeral arrangements were in the care of East Haven Funeral Home Inc, 57 Grand Bay Road, Port aux Basques, 695-2300. www.easthavenfuneralhome.com
