Walter Thomas Burt

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, Walter Thomas Burt, age 71, on Saturday, December 22, 2018, at the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sydney Mines on July 28, 1947, Walter was the son of the late George and Louise (Lyete) Burt. Dad was employed with Devco for 21 years.
Walter is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Winnifred (Halliday) Burt; his children, Mary Louise (David Willis), Clayton (Rachel Chiasson) and Jennifer (Eric Long), and his grandchildren, Courtney, Mitchel, Chad, Colton, Blake, Dawson, Erica, Koady, Aaron and Lilly. Also left to mourn are his siblings, Harry (Christina), Edith (Allister), Linda (Kevin), Mary Lou and Cathy (Arthur); his in-laws, Joseph Simpson, Brian (Jane), Harry (Cathy), Blair (Theresa), Purcell (Dorothy), D’Anne (Emmett), Anne Marie (David) and Mona, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Walter was predeceased by his brother, George; sisters, Margaret and Carol; brothers-in-law, Roddie MacIsaac and Clayton Halliday; in-laws, Laird and Mary Halliday, and grandson, Brandon, at birth.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Walter’s life will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018, at 2 p.m. in Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. James Oliver officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Walter’s name may be made to a charity of your choice.
