John Thomas Kavanagh

Born: April 22nd, 1936

Passed on: January 3rd, 2019

It is with great sadness that we share the sudden passing of our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, John Kavanagh aged 82 years, after a brief illness. Predeceased by his wife Judith (nee Joyce), his parents Francis and Mary Kavanagh (nee Daley), brothers Francis and Robert and sisters Katherine, Bernice and Mary (Jill), brothers-in-law Martin Walsh, James Colford and Cecil Joy and sisters-in-law Joan Kavanagh (nee Lawlor), Patricia Sowdon (nee Joyce) and Adonzel ‘Donza’ English (nee Joyce). Left to mourn are his children Bill (Jean Maddick), Bryan (Joyce Hong) and Debby (Dennis Wakeham). His loving grandchildren Emma Kavanagh, Bridget Kavanagh, Ashley Savinov (Ilya) and Peter Wakeham (Stephanie Fleming), great-grandson Nikolai Savinov, sister Peg (John Shea), sister-in-law Ann Kavanagh (nee Stewart), brothers-in-law Hubert English, Fred Joyce (Sharon) and a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Dad was a kind and gentle soul with a dry sense of humour. He had a lifelong love of baseball and was a die-hard Blue Jays fan. He was a caring, devoted husband to our Mom, a wonderful father and grandfather and friend to many. In his last year, Dad especially enjoyed his great-grandson Nikolai who brought him so much joy and laughter. He will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate to know him. Special thanks to the outstanding staff of the Health Sciences Centre’s teams in the emergency room, 5NorthA, respiratory therapy and internal medicine for their professionalism and care of our Dad. Cremation has taken place. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation Sunday January 6, 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Funeral mass on Monday January 7, 9:30 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, Smithville Crescent. Interment to follow at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in John’s name may be made to the Health Care Foundation, The Gathering Place or a charity of one’s choice.
