Clarence Douglas ‘Dougie’ Keats

Clarence Douglas ‘Dougie’ Keats, age 75 of South Head, passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at the Glace Bay Hospital surrounded by his family. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Mary Ellen Keats and grandson of the late Samuel and Frances Keats.
For the first half of Dougie’s life he was employed at H. Hopkins Fish Plant and the other half at the RCL Branch 55, Port Morien where he was also a long-time member. Dougie loved Wadden’s Cove; he also enjoyed gardening, growing vegetables, hunting and ice fishing. He will be remembered as a very soft hearted and caring man.
He is survived by his two daughters, Cheryl Hall (A.J.), Glace Bay, Marlane Gibbs (Jim), Gimli, Manitoba; four grandchildren, Caleigh Whatling (Mike), Timmons, Ontario, Sinead Gibbs, Gimli, Manitoba, J.D. Hall, Courtney Hall, both from Glace Bay, and one great-grandchild, Amelia Whatling.
Dougie was predeceased by his wife in 2016, Mary Lillian (Boutilier) Keats; a daughter in infancy, Sharon Lynn Keats, and in-laws, Charles and Mary Boutilier.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 from 12:30 until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m., all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Rev. Ruby Carter officiating.
Following the service all are invited to join the family for a reception at the RCL, Branch 55, Port Morien. Interment will be held at a later date in Christ Church Anglican Cemetery, South Head.
The family wish to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Mark Ellecker, Dr. Abboud, palliative care and the nurses at the 3rd Floor, Glace Bay Hospital.
