Geraldine Boyce “Gerry” Hopkins - age 89, of Kentville, passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2019 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Woodville, Kings County, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Evelyn (Boyce) Brown. A graduate of Acadia University, she worked in Halifax and later, after her children were older, as a secretary in the X-ray Department of the former Blanchard-Fraser Memorial Hospital, Kentville, retiring after 23 years. She was a member of the former United Church of St. Paul and St. Stephen, Kentville and was also a member of Eagle Crest Golf Course, Centreville. Gerry is survived by a daughter, Lynne (John) Mills, Hebbville; a son, Wayne (Lesley) Hopkins, New Minas; grandchildren, Nicole (Cory), Jacqueline (Jenny), Thomas (Helene) and Matthew; great grandson, Emmitt; brother, Allison Brown, New Minas; brother-in-law, Gerald Hopkins, NL; several nieces and a nephew. She is predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Frank and grandson, Nicholas; sisters-in-law, Edna Hopkins, Edie Brown and Wilda Ward. Cremation has taken place. There was no visitation, by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, took place at 10:30 a.m. January 18, 2019, in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Rev. Don Sellsted officiating. Burial took place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Donations in memory may be made to the Valley Hospice Foundation or Diabetes Canada - Nova Scotia Branch. We wish to thank the staff at Wedgewood Home for Seniors, Kentville, for the wonderful care they provided during her stay there near her family and friends. It was a wonderful place for walking which she enjoyed so very much and the staff on Medical B at the Valley Regional Hospital.
