It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Joseph ‘Joe’ Forrest on January 9, 2019 after a brief illness. He passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, with his loving family, wife Dorothy and his son Joey, whom he idolized, by his side.
Joe was born on Sept. 17, 1947 to the late Stanley and Isabel ‘Babe’ Forrest of Florence.
Joe was a kind and gentle soul. He worked at Devco for 35 years until its closure in 2000. His hobby and passion were in antique custom cars. Joe was an avid member of the Cape Breton Antique & Custom Car Club and enjoyed taking his cars to local car shows.
Joe is survived, and will be missed, by his wife, Dorothy (Devoe); son, Joey (Emmaly); brother, Tom, Halifax; sisters, Myra, Sydney Mines, Isabel, Bras d’Or; mother-in-law, Stella Devoe and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother, James; sisters, Mary and Thelma as well as father-in-law, Albert Devoe.
We would like to extend a special thank you to the physicians and nurses of the emergency room, ICU and Dialysis team of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their care and compassion given to Joe. Also, a sincere thank you to Rev. Peter Rafuse and Mary Lou MacDougall for their spiritual care. We are truly grateful.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Friday, January 18, 2019 at Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home, 8 Clyde Ave., Sydney Mines. A small prayer service will be held at the end of the gathering with Rev. Stacey LeMoine officiating. Burial will take place at a later date.
