We are deeply saddened to announce the unexpected passing of Vallie Jo MacAulay, 44 from Wagmatcook, NS. She died January 14, 2019 at the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Honoring her wish and generous nature, the gift of life was shared with many people in need through organ and tissue donation.
Born in Sydney, NS on November 20, 1974, Vallie was the daughter of the late Sylvia Googoo and Peter Frank Bernard.
She belonged to the Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Church. She graduated from Cape Breton University with a Bachelor of Arts. She worked for the Wagmatcook First Nation as a finance officer specializing in payroll. She was involved in our Band Election as a Deputy Electoral Officer. She was also a part of numerous committees, such as the Recreation Committee, Summer Games Committee, and the Wagmatcook Christmas Gathering Committee where she was the head elf. She spent a lot of her free time helping the community in any way she could. She loved spending time with her beautiful children and many friends who meant the world to her. She also loved sunning, hiking, swimming, the lake, the Bruins and mudding with her ‘big sexy’ RAM. She was the life of the party, would make friends anywhere she went and would light up any room she walked into.
Vallie will be missed by her husband, Donald Frank MacAulay; son, Donald Connor; daughter, Chelsey Rose; sisters, Andra Lee Bernard (Roy Preston), Cecelia Marie Bernard, Mary Elizabeth Googoo, all of Wagmatcook and Patricia Lee Bernard of Vermillion Bay; godchildren, Dawn Marshall, Shania Pierrard and Sarah Googoo; godparents, Wilfred (uncle) and Doris Googoo; aunts, Carol Johnson of Millbrook, Judy Googoo (Joe) of We’ko’qmaq, Freda Kabaty (Alfred) of Membertou, Florence Googoo (Wayne) of Sydney, Alexandria Bernard, Eunice Peck, Geraldine Googoo and Tina Googoo (Kenny), all of Wagmatcook; uncles, Philip Bernard (Karen), Charlie Googoo, Vincent Googoo, Richard Googoo and Peter D. Googoo (Karen), all of Wagmatcook; nieces, Kara, Angelica, Melody, Emma, Serena, Madonna, Chantel, Natasha, Kendall, Maggie, Story and Adalynn; nephews, Kevin, Oliver, Isaac, Everette, Carter and Aidan; many great nieces and great nephews, cousins, friends, co-workers and community.
Along with her parents, Vallie was also predeceased by maternal grandparents, Peter Patrick and Helen Googoo; paternal grandparents, Frank and Mary Susan Bernard; sister, Christie Ann Francis (Freeman); uncles, Vincent Bernard, Wilfred Bernard, David Bernard, Houlton Bernard, Lawrence Bernard; aunt, Dorothy Basque; cousins, Dwayne Daniel Peck, Elaine Rose Googoo, twins Stacey (in infancy) and Patricia Googoo, Grant Googoo and Charly Lafford-Bernard and niece, Cynthia Lynn Woitowicz.
Visitation will take place at the Wagmatcook Elder’s Centre, 57 Fishery Rd., Wagmatcook, NS starting Sunday, January 20, 2019 at 2 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Church, Tuesday, January 22 at 11 a.m. with Fr. Eugene Morris officiating. Cremation will take place at a later date.
