Charles Alfred "Charlie" JOSEPH

Charles Alfred "Charlie" JOSEPH

New Glasgow - Charles Alfred “Charlie” Joseph. It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our Charlie due to complications of a brain tumor on Monday, January 14, 2019, in the Aberdeen Hospital. Born October 5, 1950 in New Glasgow, he was the only son of the late Charles Edward and Anna Frances (Fraser) Joseph. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Mary (Duff); proud dad of Charlene and the greatest Papa to Joseph Gabriel Johnston. He is also survived by 6 sisters; several nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law: Geordie (Diane) Duff; Bernie (Bonnie) Duff and Jack Duff, to those guys Charlie was just another brother. He is also survived by his little fur buddy, Leo the cat. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his in-laws, Peter and Bernice Duff; brother-in-law, Eddie Duff. Charlie was a Red Seal millwright, working at Trenton Works until its closing. He then worked in the oil sands in Fort McMurray until his retirement. Each time he went out, he couldn’t wait to get back home with us. He made many new friends when he worked. Mary would say, “My Charlie can fix anything”; his buddies at work wrote it on his lunch can. It was a little work joke, like the hard hat made for him from a lampshade. Charlie just laughed and took it in stride. That’s the way Charlie was, easygoing, kind and a sweet, loving man. He would do anything for anyone and always had a kind word to say about people. An avid outdoorsman, Charlie enjoyed hunting with Papa’s boy, Joseph, and they also loved to fish together. Charlie enjoyed the spring fishing trips every year with the guys down in Goshen at Motor’s camp. Then there were his yearly hunting trips with his best friend, David, at Dryden Lake at John’s camp. Each year Charlie would take the ATV run with all the other guys, leaving from Trenton and driving the bikes to Goshen. He loved being outside and on the go. Lately, he even started enjoying the short walks he and Mary would take. Charlie also liked to spend time at Rusty’s with the guys and going on tow truck calls with Rusty. Thank you, Rusty, for being so good to Charlie. The one thing Charlie loved best was camping with Mary and Joseph and sometimes Charlene. We would go to many different places, see many new things and meet new people. At this time, we would like to say thank you to all the people who helped our Charlie: family doctor, Dr. Ghoreishi; doctors and nurses at the Halifax Infirmary; Dr. A. Week and nurses at 7.3 Neuro Surgery, especially Joy whom Charlie liked; she was funny and sweet; RN Missy, you were so helpful to us; Dr. L. Mulroy, oncologist; his nurse Lynda and all the staff at the Radiation Dept. at the Dickson Centre; to all the great paramedics for each time you came to work on and help Charlie; and also the New Glasgow Firefighters for your help. Thanks to R.H. Porter Funeral Home for your assistance. Next, we want to say thank you to Darby for lending me your small car to travel back and forth to Halifax every day. Thank you, dear Wayne, for all your trips up to visit Charlie; he totally enjoyed them. You are just like family. Also, thanks for watching all the animals. Thanks to Mona and Ken for letting me use your home and for the good meals you gave. Last, but not least, to my brother Jack, thanks for all you have done for us and Charlie and for your visits to Halifax; he loved your company. “God bless you all!” There will be no visitation or service by request. In his memory, show a kind deed to someone and be good to your friends. Arrangements are under the direction of the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Condolences may be sent by visiting: www.rhporter.ca “We will miss you Sweetheart. Rest in peace Charlie my love. Until we meet again, we will carry your memory with us.”
