Lionel Ralph Parsons

Born In: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
Born: May 22nd, 1940

Passed on: January 31st, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lionel Ralph Parsons on January 31, 2019. Born in Halifax on May 22, 1940 he moved to Catalone as a very young boy. Dad grew up loving all the benefits of a country life including his favourite pastime, fishing.
Dad was a quiet, humble and spiritual man whose dying wish was for a simple obituary. He was hardworking and community-minded, and we would be remiss not to mention his two passions, square dancing and the Cape Breton Chordsmen; both of these gave him great joy and adventure.
He is survived by daughter, Colette (Bill) Smith; son, Trevor (Gretchen Phillips); son-in-law, Michael Battson; four grandchildren, Jonathan and Christine Smith, Elise and Abigail Battson as well as his only remaining sibling, Gloria ‘Sis’ MacLeod. He will also be mourned by his large extended family.
He was predeceased by his parents, Mary (Edwards) and Llewellyn Parsons; his loving wife of 49 years, Shannon (Butler) and his daughter, Marlene Battson. He was also predeceased by his sister, Marie Warren; brothers, Murray and Garnet and brothers, Llewellyn, Carl and Hugh Allen in infancy.
Visitation will be held Monday, Feb 4th from 5 to 8 p.m. at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS, (902-849-4199).
Funeral and celebration of life will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5th at St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay.
We would like to extend our thanks to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Palliative Care team for their assistance and care over the past two months.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Hospice Cape Breton.
