It is with deeply sorrowed hearts we announce the passing of Laura Catherine MacKenzie, on Feb. 5, 2019. Cathy passed away after a valiant fight with Lung Cancer at Glace Bay Hospital at the young age of 54, surrounded by her loving family.
She will be forever missed by her husband, Daniel Wells; loving children, Kelli and John, Candice and Brian, and Daniel and Skye. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Kaileigh, London and Sam; brother, Robbie MacKenzie; nephew and niece, Colin and Shannon and many other loving family members.
Cathy was born in Glace Bay on May 3, 1964 to her mother, Shirley MacKenzie and her dad, Robert "Whiskers" MacKenzie.
She was a loving daughter, little-big sister, the "fun" aunt, passionate and proud mother, and a loving wife. She dedicated her life to loving her family. Cathy always had an open, fierce heart and a listening ear that was welcomed to all who seeked her love and counsel. She will be incredibly missed by all who have known her. Her light will live on through her family.
As a final act of Cathy's kindness, she was able to provide two people with the gift of sight.
As per Cathy's wishes, there will be no formal services. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay.
There will be a small celebration of life held with close friends and family. She will have her ashes sprinkled at a location that was very dear to herself and her family.
In lieu of flowers we ask to donate to your local palliative care department. Special thanks to all of the nurses and doctors who cared, listened and comforted her.
On line condolences to the family can be expressed at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
