Rachel M Rolfe

Rachel M. Rolfe, age 88, of Springhill, passed away peacefully at All Saints Hospital, Springhill surrounded by the comfort of her family on Sunday, May 15, 2011.



Born in Springhill, NS, she was a daughter of the late William and Mary (Canning) Perrin.



Rachel lost her husband Ernest in the Mines in 1958, and was left to raise her only daughter Allison. She went to work as a Nurses Aid in Pugwash for the Saint John Ambulance, then returned to the Saint Charles School to obtain her Secretarial Diploma and retained work at Chapman Brothers in Amherst for over 10 years. She then worked at the Vocational School as a Secretary in the business department. After a summer course, she taught the Business Education Course at the Springhill High School until her retirement.

She was a lifetime member of the Pythian Sisters Lodge, a member of the Rebakah Lodge, an avid Life Time member of the Progressive Conservative Party, and was a member of the bowling league. She loved to quilt with her sister, play cards and created and taught the making of ceramics in her home. Rachel was a lady whose hands were never idle.



She will be dearly missed by her daughter Allison Rolfe, Halifax, grandchildren Amy (Barry) White, Springhill, Nicole (Greg) Drysdale, Halifax, and Krissy (Nick Dufresne) Purdy, Ottawa, great grandchildren Kyle, Allie, Ryan, Bailey Rachel and Nathan, great great grandson Kaden; brothers Bill (Alva), Cole Harbour and Charlie (Barb), Oxford Junction.



She was predeceased by her husband Ernest; brothers George and Robert; sisters Ida Clarke and Marjorie Rolfe, half-brothers Alex, Elmer and Wilbert.



Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of A H Brown Funeral Home, Springhill, 5 McFarlane St., Springhill, NS (902-597-2361). A graveside service was held in the Leamington Cemetery on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 2 pm, Rev. Wayne McCarther officiating.
