John Harvey 'Harvey' Morris

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Dad and good friend, ‘Harvey’ Morris. Harvey passed away peacefully at the Northside General Hospital on February 12, 2019 surrounded by his loving family at the age of 94.
He was the son of the late Thomas James and Carrie Margaret (MacKenzie) Morris.
Harvey was an Air Force veteran of World War II and was a founding member and honorary president of the East Bay Legion, Branch 151. His career was teaching Diesel Mechanics at Cape Breton Regional Vocational School and also taught night school mechanics in Eskasoni for a short period. Harvey started the Learn To Swim program at East Bay Beach in the 1960’s, the first one on the island and was Commanding Officer of 777 Corbett Squadron – Air Cadets. He was also an avid motorcyclist well into his 80’s and a faithful follower of Formula 1 racing. He loved everything about living in East Bay and the Bras d’or Lakes.
He is survived by sons, Tom (Martina), John Harvey Jr. ‘Dates’ (Diane); daughter, Carol (Raymond); grandchildren, Denise, Katelyn, Danielle, Marybeth, Janet, Terrance, John Roy, Kathleen; great-grandchildren, Jay, Ethan, Scarlett; sister-in-law, Sandra Morris and several nieces and nephews.
Harvey was predeceased by his wife, Jenny (O’Leary); brothers, Thomas James (Joe), Earl; sister, Marguerite; grandson, John Harvey Morris and good friend, Mary MacLean.
As per Harvey’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service, ‘because he was the boss’. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Parish cemetery, East Bay at a later date.
