Robert Joseph GEORGE

Age 81 passed away peacefully in Elk Court, Brookfield, N.S. on February 20, 2019. He was born in August of 1937 to the late Robert and Mary George of Canning, N.S. Robert joined the military at a very young age serving with the Canadian Peace Keeping Forces in Canada, Egypt and the Congo as a radio technician. After his military career, he embraced education and obtained qualifications as an electrician, a draftsman and an instrumentation technician. Most of his career was spent between the underground bunker at Camp Debert, Crossley Carpet Mills and Lafarge Canada from where he retired in 1995. He also started a family hydroponic greenhouse business known as Brentwood Produce. After his retirement, he became very involved with Cobequid Wind Farms playing an instrumental role in land negotiations for the establishment of wind farms. He loved the wind mills! Another one of his passions was waterfalls. Robert and Shirley travelled extensively throughout Nova Scotia visiting any and all waterfalls that were accessible to them. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Most recently, after going into nursing home care, he looked forward to day trips to anywhere as long as they included stops at both Tim Hortons and A & W! He is survived by Daughter Catherine (John) Worsley, Hilden; sons, Jeffery (Cathy), Bridgewater, Anthony (Rhonda), Shortt’s Lake, Patrick (Natalie), Penticton, BC., Andrew (Paula), Mount Uniacke, Robert (Sue), Glen Haven; grandchildren, Alexander, Elizabeth, Scott, Emily, Matthew, Bradley, Adam, Darren, Mitchell, Lucas, Amelia, Ian, Ben; two step grandchildren; nine great grandchildren, and two step great grandchildren; brother, Darrell (Sylvia), Canning and sister, Colleen, Kentville. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years, Shirley; brother, John, and sisters, Dorothy and Roberta. Special thanks to the staff at Elk Court for being part of his family. No visitation by request. A Celebratory Mass will be held on Monday, February 25 at 11:00 am in the Immaculate Conception Church, 669 Prince Street, Truro with Father Dariusz Miskowicz officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert’s five sons and his son-in-law. Reception will follow in Campbell Hall in the church. Family flowers only. Donations in his memory may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro.
