It is with heavy hearts that the family of Joan (Baird) Curtis announce her passing on February 27, 2019 after a brief illness. Joan was a bright light to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was married to Augustus (Gus) Curtis and had two sons who were the love of her life. Joan was a beautiful, elegant, independent, strong and generous woman who made friends easily and will truly be missed. Predeceasing Joan are her beloved husband Gus in 1961, her parents, James and Jessie Baird, her mother and father-in-law, Ethel (Nanny) and Richard Curtis and her siblings Alice (Walt) Dyke, Leo (Anne) Baird, Jim Baird (Phyllis, living in Mount Pearl), John (Bernadette) Baird, Vera (Pat) Kennedy, Ed (Mary) Baird and her in-laws, Pat (Grace) Curtis, Mary (affectionately known as Mollie) (Marcel) Boivin, and Harry (Madonna) Curtis. Leaving to mourn with cherished memories are her children, John (Trudy Pound-Curtis) and Gerard (Geraldine Coady), her grandchildren Leslie (Andy Blundon) and Christopher (Nichole Bailey), the joys of her life, her great-grandchildren Ariana and Ashton Blundon, and a large circle of nieces, nephews and their children. Joan had a large circle of very close lifelong friends; John and Carmel Murphy, Frank and Shirley Joy, Patricia Howlett (Bernard, deceased), Ed and Mary Galway (deceased), her very special life-long friend and cousin Marie (Whittle) Sceviour, and her friends at Bishop Meadon Manor. The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the Doctors, Nurses and staff at St Clare’s Hospital, the Health Sciences Center, the Miller Center and Agnes Pratt Home. At each step of the way Mom was met with unfailing kindness, care and attention that warmed her heart and gave her peace of mind. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation will be held on Sunday March 3rd and Monday March 4th, from 2-4 pm and 6-9pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, March 5th at 10:30 a.m. at St Patrick’s Church, Patrick Street. Internment to follow at Mount Carmel cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations to a charity of one’s choice.
