Passed in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia
Passed on: March 3rd, 2019

Edna Lillian MacVicar passed away peacefully on March 3, 2019 at the Glace Bay General Hospital surrounded by family and friends.
Edna, born on October 31, 1937, was the daughter of Allan and Ina MacVicar.
Edna enjoyed a teaching career at Caledonia School that spanned over 37 years retiring in 1994. Edna truly left an impression on her students, with many keeping in touch with her throughout their adult lives. Edna had a passion for learning and especially storytelling often finishing a lesson with a reading from a chapter of a favorite novel. She was everyone’s favorite teacher.
Edna’s other passion was a lifelong commitment to St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Glace Bay. Edna taught Sunday School and served on the Board of Managers, the Finance Committee and the Scholarship Committee. She also spent her summers attending Calvin Presbyterian Church and volunteering at the Community Hall while spending time at the family cottage in Loch Lomond. Ultimately, Edna lived her life for family and friends. The impression she left on the people she loved will be everlasting.
To the next generation, Edna was always known as “Auntie”. She loved her nieces and nephews as if her own children. Auntie left a loving impression on them all that will last a lifetime. Many stories will carry down to future generations of summers with Auntie in Loch Lomond. From drives around the lake and beach days at Point Michaud to detours through the Glen Road, she filled the summers with so much love, joy and laughter.
Edna was predeceased by her parents, Allan and Ina MacVicar; her sister, Jeanette and brother-in-law, Ron Bentley and nephew, David MacVicar.
Edna is survived by her brother, Donald (Kathryn); aunt, Jeanette Sterns; nephews, Donald (Victoria) and Kenneth (Gerri), Allan (Rachel) and Paul Bentley (Lisa); nieces, Marilyn Brown (Phil), Suzanne Bentley, great nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to the staff at the Third Floor Glace Bay General Hospital including Dr. Ley and Dr. McNeil and the palliative care team. Also, a heartfelt thank you to Diane Parsons and John MacDonald for their loving care of Edna.
Visitation will be held at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church on Thursday March 7th from 2-4 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m. Service will be held at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church on Friday March 8th at 2 p.m.
