Robert Ross “Rob” Friars - age 63, of Coldbrook, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2019, at home, following a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was predeceased by his parents, Ross and Dorothy (Ross) Friars of Coldbrook and is survived by his sister, Kathryn “Kate” Friars and sister-in-law, Patricia “Pat” Harrington. Rob is best described as a free spirit with an adventurous soul. He had close friends from around the world and treasured his family of friends in the Annapolis Valley and Puerto Escondido. A special thanks to Rob’s friends who let him win the numerous cribbage games during his treatments and recovery, and especially to his cousins, Peg, Andrew, Janice and Sue who supported him and our family over the past year. Rob and Kate also want to pay tribute to Hugh Miller who was able to be with Rob during his last days. His contribution to Rob’s care made it possible for him to be at home and comfortable. Rob is grateful for the medical care he received during his treatment both at the Cancer Care Program in Halifax and the Valley Regional Hospital. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to make a donation to the Atlantic Clinical Cancer Research Unit through the QEII Foundation in Halifax. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or funeral service, by request. A celebration of Rob’s life will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the Kings Arms Pub, Kentville.
